The Big Slice on Yonge Street and Gerrard, that is famed among Ryerson students, the late night crowd, and among misfits of all origins, has closed its doors this Monday to make way for another new condo block.
The never perfectly spotless but homely and unique pizzeria had been serving up genuinely huge slices of pizza like nobody’s business for some 45 years, where it stood alongside the late-Sam the Record Man and Zanzibar.
The place will always hold a place for me as it was—along with Ginger—where I would eat lunch or dinner after TAing classes at Ryerson. And it was at The Big Slice, after TAing two classes, where I saw on CP24 that Leonard Nimoy had died.
Live long and prosper, dear friends.
