As I began to plot out several potential novel-length stories for NaNoWriMo 2014, I realized that when my main computer died I had not only lost the plans for a four-novel series on the Suzanne character, but I had also lost the entire first draft of Suzanne of the Suburbs. While I do have some fragments of that novel stored across a few USB keys, 3.5″ floppies, and screen caps on my Facebook, it is unfortunate that I lost a month’s work of writing. Regardless, I should take this fact of life in stride and write a second, better draft based on the best surviving material and some alternative ideas from last year that didn’t make the original cut.
