Windows ME and DOS games

Until a few days ago, I was led to believe that it was impossible to run DOS games in Windows ME.

I was misinformed.

On New Year’s Day, I tested my Win9x gaming computer with several DOS games from the mid- to the late-90s, e.g. MechWarrior 2, Duke3D, Shadow Warrior, Night Hawk: F-117A Stealth Fighter 2.0. All of these games successfully ran within Windows ME.

Curiously, my Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 could emulate the Roland Sound Canvas (General MIDI and Roland GS), which was great because Adlib and Creative Lab’s own Wave Blaster sucked.

I still have no clue how one would connect a Sound Blaster AWE32 with a Gravis Ultrasound, an Ensoniq Soundscape Elite, along with a Roland MPU-401 to a pair of speakers.
